UPDATE - August/September 2017:
Our Hard Work Is Paying Off!

On August 2, the Senate Small Business & Entrepreneurship Committee passed S. 690, the “HUBZone Investment Protection Act of 2017,” introduced by Senator Ben Cardin (MD) and supported by Chair Risch, Ranking Member Shaheen and Senators Hirono, Van Hollen, King, Brown, Peters and Duckworth, which extends the HUBZone redesignation period from three to seven years.  The Committee also passed S. 929, the “Invest in Rural Small Business Act of 2017.” Introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen (NH), this legislation amends the HUBZone employee residency requirement from 35% to 33% and gives Governors the ability to petition the SBA Administrator to designate areas as HUBZones.

This is fantastic news!  These two provisions have been our top legislative priorities in 2017.  These common sense changes to the current program allow HUBZone certified businesses to make substantial, long-term investments in their communities and simplify compliance.  The bills now move to the full Senate for consideration.

We would like to thank the HUBZone Council Board members for their tireless work educating Members of Congress on the urgency of reform, our advocacy team at Madison Services Group, Inc., and each and every Council member for your efforts to modernize the HUBZone program.
